“Reflections on Staying On: My Journey with Weskus” – Ahang Lentsa
You’re staying on at Weskus after your 2024 internship? How does that make you feel?
I feel incredibly grateful and excited to stay on after my internship. It’s a huge opportunity to continue growing and to contribute to the important work that Weskus does. There’s a sense of pride in being given the chance to stay on and continue being a part of the team. I’m looking forward to facing new challenges and learning even more in this next phase.
What will you be doing, and where will you be working?
I will be working as a Call Taker and Dispatcher at the West Coast Disaster Management Centre. This role will allow me to be directly involved in managing emergency situations, answering calls, and dispatching the necessary services to where they are needed most. I’m eager to take on more responsibility and enhance my skills in this critical role.
What are the most important things the internship taught you?
The internship taught me the importance of adaptability and staying calm under pressure. I learned how to manage multiple tasks at once and prioritize effectively, especially in emergency situations. It also showed me the value of teamwork and clear communication, both of which are essential for success in disaster management. These lessons have been invaluable and will guide me in my continued work with Weskus.
