Let’s circle together

Inspired by Richard Branson’s “Circle” theory, Weskus Distrik gathered with the five west coast municipalities to address economic, sustainability, strategic and transversal planning for the region under a Weskus Conversations conference theme of “Let’s Circle Together”, representing a wider circle of responsibility for the region beyond demarcated local municipal areas.

The reference to “circle” was inspired by Richard Branson’s Circles theory.

His theory basically refers to the need to ensure that your own circle is healthy and once thriving, to start thinking about the bigger picture and do all you can to help others in your neighbourhood. From there, stretch yourself to help your country.

Executive Mayor Ald RW “Boffie” Strydom describes the spirit of the Weskus Conversations conference.

“The Western Cape municipalities are performing well, but that doesn’t mean that we take success for granted. We can improve if we circle together; and find solutions for the challenges on the horizon which face local government. In the bigger picture, successful municipalities can reach out and inspire others and overall, provide a sense of hope for South Africans in terms of what can, and should, be expected”.

This type of collaboration has extended to Weskus Distrik’s plans for a national “Wavemaker Summit” where public and private sector leaders will get together to be the wind behind waves of change.
