Chief Financial Officers, financial practitioners, and administrators with vested interest in municipal financial services gathered at Ganzekraal on the Weskus earlier this week.
This platform creates a robust environment for local government’s financial leaders to discuss public sector financial management and governance. Delegates also deliberate on new policies and forthcoming legislation, encouraging knowledge sharing and alignment. Subjects covered include the financial sustainability of municipalities, key strategic imperatives, improving the effectiveness of communication, and subjects such as waste management, among others.
In his opening remarks, Weskus Distrik’s Chief Financial Officer Dr Johan Tesselaar responded positively to the Western Cape premier’s call for cohesion by emphasising that notwithstanding Weskus’s regional focus, it fully embraced working closely together with the Province.
Weskus Distrik is renowned for strong governance, evidenced by the rare achievement of thirteen consecutive clean audits from the Auditor General. It is one of only sixteen municipalities in South Africa categorized as being financially stable.
