“Blue Drop SA” is a Department of Water and Sanitation initiative to assess and certify the quality and safety of municipality drinking water.
The programme evaluates water supply systems and is based on several factors such as design, operational capacity, water quality, technical skills, and safety plans.
Standards are closely monitored, and it acts as an incentive-based regulation programme to promote improvements in the performance, compliance, and efficiency of water systems.
“Blue Drop” status is an important indicator for residents, visitors and investors that the drinking water demonstrates a high level of quality and safety.
Always thinking ahead, plans are underway to shift from using chlorine gas to chlorine dioxide to treat water.
