AI and human alignment.

The relevance of AI is undeniable, but the burning question is how employers will adapt. An organisation undergoing structural, operational or strategic disruption sees change management communication as a critical success factor. AI adoption is however more extreme than typical change. Given the scope of AI, communication must be taken to a new level, according to Steinmann.

Many surveys have been conducted into employee attitudes towards AI, and findings vary according to the industry sector, age, education and job descriptions, among others. Emotions range between fearful, insecure, sceptical, accepting, extremely positive, and excited. Given the wide swing of attitudes, effective communication will require collaboration between HR and Communication specialists as the former understands where people’s heads are, and the latter knows how to connect with them.

Steinmann believes that we are shifting from “Humans supported by AI” to ” AI supported by Humans” and that humans will play a defining role in the success of AI adoption where, according to McKinsey Consulting, only 35% are successful.

Many of us have gone through large scale organisational change but AI, at its full extent, is on another scale. Whether in the private or public sectors, the competitive advantage will come from successful adoption and that requires the acceptance, excitement and alignment of employees.

Fostering an environment where human and AI collaboration thrives is essential for navigating the future of work. As organisations embark on this journey, they must prioritise clear, effective communication and engage employees in a way that addresses their concerns and harnesses their potential in a rapidly evolving landscape.
