While 84.7 percent of visitors to the West Coast came from the domestic market, mostly Gauteng and Western Cape, the weakening of the rand against major currencies increased international bed-nights by 195.9 per cent, albeit off a low base.
The main sources of international travellers to the West Coast were the United Kingdom, Germany and the Netherlands. Interestingly, the United Kingdom and the Netherlands are also two of the leading export destinations for West Coast wines and citrus, highlighting how agri-tourism can be leveraged to boost exports.
