“Reflections on Staying On: My Journey with Weskus” – Dareline De Wee
You’re staying on at Weskus after your 2024 internship? How does that make you feel?
Staying on after my internship feels exciting and rewarding. It’s great to continue working with the team I’ve come to know during my internship, and now I can apply what I’ve learned in a more long-term role. There’s a sense of accomplishment knowing that my work is valued and that I have the opportunity to contribute even more.
What will you be doing, and where will you be working?
I’m thrilled to be involved in the day-to-day operations and to continue learning from my colleagues. I’ll be based at the Disaster Call Centre, working as a Call Taker and Dispatcher. I’m looking forward to building on the skills I developed during my internship and taking on more responsibility in this vital role.
What are the most important things the internship taught you?
The internship taught me valuable skills, such as how to collaborate effectively within a team, manage multiple tasks, and adapt quickly to changing environments. It also gave me a deeper understanding of my role in the Disaster Management Centre, which has been key in preparing me for the next steps in my career. The experience has shaped me and set me up for success moving forward.
