Sashin Septoo is a man of many talents and adds his skills as a drone pilot and video editor to his role in Weskus Distrik’s Disaster Management Centre.
Sashin sees the building of a network and developing professional relationships with local government, Emergency Services, NGOs and other organisations involved in Disaster Management as important steps in developing leadership skills.
Aspects of his job that he really enjoys include the opportunity to make a real impact in the community. The ever-changing disaster management space also appeals to Sashin as the unpredictable nature of his work requires him to think critically and act quickly.
The job can be stressful.
Working with multiple teams, and taking responsibility when people are at their most vulnerable state can be physically and emotionally demanding but Sashin is encouraged and mentored by Head of Weskus Disaster Management Centre Franquin Petersen, who leads from the front and is a fine role model for his team.
