Technology powers service delivery

Starting at Weskus as a junior network administrator 22 years ago, Hendrik is now the ICT manager of this progressive district municipality.

“Things have certainly changed over the years. Back in the day, one server was more than enough for our needs. We now have 12 servers”.

What else has changed?

  • Embedding an approach of zero trust to manage the prevalent threat of cybercrime.
  • COVID-tested business continuity as many senior managers worked remotely.
  • A shift towards a paperless environment although many processes still require a paper trail.
  • Close partnerships with suppliers involving the transfer of skills and in-house opportunities for young talent.

“Overall, the future is exciting, and it’s happening now. Technology will enable us to increase efficiencies and accuracy, whether this is in workflow or enabling our firefighting team to predict future threats and take preventative action or communicating more effectively with our stakeholders and communities. Intelligent deployment of technology has one aim and that is service delivery”.
