Jasper Jonker, Senior Manager: Budget and Treasury Office & Resort, shares his pride in Weskus Distrik’s recognition as SA’s best-run municipality, and says that Weskus Distrik can plough back by helping other municipalities to improve.
“I am extremely proud and I consider it an honour to be part of this dedicated team. This is not a one man show, but all working as a team with the same objective.”
“Although the consecutive clean audits definitely played a role in being recognised as the best run municipality, it is much more than that. Investing in the broader improvement of local government by assisting other municipalities and ploughing back in such a way, is of utmost importance.”
“Also, the fact that we can say that good governance has taken place and that the ratepayers get value for their money”.
Jasper believes that looking out for their staffs’ well-being is bearing fruits, and the clean audits gave them the platform.
“As this recognition is a major indication of clean governance, it also opens doors to other opportunities such as assisting other municipalities to improve their situations, as well as obtaining funding at better rates for future development”.
