Weskus Distrik attracts the talent required to deliver essential services to its community. Welcome to Rohann Stander, Senior Manager: Roads.
Rohann, B.Eng. (Civil), PR.Eng, joined the Weskus Infrastructure: Roads team in September 2023 after time at Bergrivier Municipality as Manager: Project Management and Building Control. Prior to that he spent about 13 years in the private sector. He is registered as Professional Engineer with the Engineering Council (ECSA).
He has a number of responsibilities including the management of funding and projects for upgrading, reseal, regravel, construction and routine maintenance of provincial roads among others. He is also proactive in finding ways to improve efficiencies and productivity.
“After exposure to the private sector, I was looking for a new challenge and subsequently joined the public sector. It has been an eye-opener as there are many processes that a project must go through before you can begin with design and construction”.
“In my opinion, the public sector provides a higher level of job security and the fulfilment of using one’s skills to the benefit of others”.
Rohann’s early impressions of Weskus Distrik?
“When applying for the Weskus position it had already achieved 12 consecutive clean audits and was rated by Business Tech as the best-run municipality in South Africa. Now, they have extended this run to 13 years in a row. This is testament to good governance which I hold in high regard”.
