MD and Founder of Brasika Consulting, Advocate Helen Venter, shares her thoughts on Weskus Distrik, procurement, and clean audits.
Consulting with Weskus Distrik from a legal and governance perspective, I find that they all work from a strictly ethical base. They are all committed to learning and understanding their highly regulated environment.
It is a pleasure providing training and guidance, knowing that it is not only well-received but taken to heart. There is also a clear understanding of the roles and responsibilities between the politicians and administrators, preventing undue interference.
There are clear benefits beyond the clean audit itself, touching on the area of procurement where most of the budgets are found.
Citizens and potential investors can be comfortable that the procurement practices and decision-making in the municipality are above board, and not prone to significant contingent liabilities due to protracted litigation and court battles which typically occur when contracts are irregularly awarded or poorly managed.
I am not surprised that they received their 13th clean audit in a row.
