What was your first job? I worked for SARS after dropping out of college, I had to pay off my student loan. It was a fortuitous ‘exit’ as I soon discovered an enduring passion for brand and marketing.

Did you do anything special with your first salary? Not really, most went towards my student loan.

Looking back to those early days, what do you wish somebody had told you? Don’t stress the small things. We spend so much time worrying about things that don’t matter. Even big things – you can’t figure out solutions if you’re anxious or tight. Take a step back, think clearly, and you’ll find a way.

What book had the most profound effect on you? Why? I read the Capitec story “Walking with Giants” a few weeks back. I don’t think the Big Four even knew that they were in a fight until it was lost!

If you could give hope to South Africans by fixing one thing, what would that be? So, I’d fix the non-performing municipalities, they’re the closest ‘agent of hope’ to South Africans.
