One of the standout achievements for me in 2025 was the expanded integration of the District Disaster Management Centre into the broader innovation agenda of Weskus District. For the first time, our centre was not only a responder but an active co-creator in strategic districtwide initiatives – particularly those championed by Dr Tesselaar.
Another milestone of the Weskus brand was the progress made with the SOLVEM interns. Their placement within the Disaster Management Centre strengthened our operational capacity, improved our data collection and early-warning workflows, and helped us mainstream innovation into humanitarian and risk-reduction planning. Their contribution reflected the district’s commitment to nurturing young talent while building a hub of future-ready disaster management officials with some knowledge of the discipline.
