“Reflections on Staying On: My Journey with Weskus” – Gavin Williams
You’re staying on at Weskus after your 2024 internship? How does that make you feel?
I feel very excited and proud of myself for putting in the hard work, which I believe has helped me stand out to the Disaster Management Centre (DMC). It’s rewarding to know that my efforts have been recognized, and I’m looking forward to continuing my journey here.
What will you be doing, and where will you be working?
I will be working as a Call Taker and Dispatcher in the Control Room at the DMC. It’s a critical role that involves managing emergency calls and coordinating responses. I’m excited to take on more responsibility and to further develop my skills in this area.
What are the most important things the internship taught you?
This internship has taught me never to lose hope, no matter the challenges. Staying motivated and focused on my goals has been key to getting to this point. I’ve also learned to not let anyone get me down-perseverance is vital in achieving success, especially in a demanding field like disaster management.
