A different narrative

One of the phrases you’ll hear in our meetings and corridors is “think outside the box” and people like young economist Alwyn van Niekerk amplify this call.

Financial modelling is an area that Alwyn has shown a keen interest in – a discipline which enables sustainable financial management and is key to service delivery.

It is however a complex costing mechanism. If you get it wrong, you can’t generate sufficient revenue to provide much-needed services to the community. Or you could charge the community fees which do not reflect the dynamics and elasticity of users. A small change in thinking can have a huge significant impact on the community.
